quilts will be displayed in this exhibition based on oxymorons,
the juxtaposition of completely contradictory words. By
fusing language and visual fiber art, imagination soars to unlimited
realms. Many recall a mother, aunt, grandmother or
family friend who made quilts. Such humble and homey
roots lend an air of accessibility to the art quilt.
Using traditional quilting techniques in non-traditional ways,
art quilts have become a means of expression for
artists. These artists deal with the same issues,
themes, and design concerns explored by artists in other
media. Sponsored by the American Quilter's
Society. No admission charged. Call for

PERFORMING ARTS SERIES
7:30PM,432-685-4526,Chaparral Center, The Phyllis & Bob
Cowan Performing Arts Series presents "Preservation Jazz
Hall Band." From generation to generation, the
Preservation Hall Jazz Band brings the flavor of New Orleans
jazz to stages across America.Direct from the New Orleans French Quarter, the band delights
audiences with classic tunes like "I Ain't Nobody,"
"Tiger Rag" and "Bill Bailey."Originating in the early part of the century, New
Orleans Jazz is not to be confused with the two-beat Dixieland
style. The tempo is a shade slower than the other jazz forms and
the melody is always clearly heard with improvisation at its
heart.Unobscured by
complicated arrangements, its greatness lies
in its simplicity.Bands
generally consist of five to seven pieces, with the trumpet
usually the musical leader. FREE - ticket required
