Robert Hillestad: Textiles
May 9 - June 30, 2002

Hillestad is Professor Emeritus, Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He is internationally known for his “Celebration Coats” inspired by traditional Japanese Kimono’s.

Cristi Branum: Vessels

Midland’s own, Cristi Branum (b. 1955) paints and creates stunning jewelry using a variety of common and precious material.

Claudia DeMonte: Female Fetishes
September 12 - October 27, 2002
Reception: September 20, from 6-7:30 PM

Claudia DeMonte (b. 1947) is an artist and a tenured professor at the University of Maryland. She refers to her recent works as female fetishes because they play off such traditionally female icons as hand bags, high heel shoes and hand irons which are carved from wood and covered with silver or pewter milagros.

Teri Greeves: Beadwork
November 7 - December 31, 2002
Reception: November 8, 2002, from 6 - 7:30 PM

A variety of fascinating beadwork by Kiowa artist Teri Greeves, renowned for her bracelets and beaded tennis shoes. Teri grew up in Northwestern Wyoming, gaining exposure to traditional native American arts by helping her mother in the family trading post.

Four talented artists paint and sculpt variations of the Western theme, such as the mountain men, the Plains Indians, and the settlers. On loan from the Cowboy Arts Of America Museum in Kerrville, TX.

Global Women’s Art Project
September 5 - October 27, 2002

Curated by Claudia DeMonte, professor of Art at the University of Maryland, the Global Women’s Art Project presents 177 women artists, from as many countries, addressing “the experience of being a woman.” Media ranges from embroidery to digital photography with painting, weaving, collage, and mixed-media.

Christmas at the Mansion Decor
November 22, 2002 - January 1, 2003

The Museum of the Southwest’s annual holiday celebration of family and treasured memories. The Museum will once again feature holiday decor throughout each room, designer trees, teas, choirs, doll houses, a Christmas shop, Santa Claus, and more. The Southwest Express will honor and celebrate our collective memories of Midland in days gone by as several model trains make the rounds on a custom-designed 200 square foot layout. The littlest museum patrons will be entertained by an elaborate Playmobil exhibit.

Selection of outstanding fine art prints by noted native American artists of the 1970s and 1980s from the collection of the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center, Colorado Springs, CO. Included in the exhibit are works by Fritz Scholder, RC Gorman and others.
