BALMORHEA STATE PARK

This state park offers camping, trailer sites, cabins,
swimming, play and picnic areas, and scuba diving. In
the middle of the 1.75 acre, 30 foot deep swimming pool
is a fresh spring, which feeds the pool 26 million gallons
of invigorating 72° water
daily. Approximately 150 miles southwest of Midland via
Interstate 20, located on State Highway 17 and U.S. 290.
BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK

Rugged, spectacularly beautiful mountains rise above the
Rio Grande. Float trips down this international boundary
are an experience to long remember. Horseback riding,
pack trips, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, and camping
are also available. Brilliant desert flowers and blooming
cacti await the visitor. Approximately 200 miles southwest
of Midland via Interstate 20, located on State Highway
18 and U.S. 385. At the western edge of the park is Lajitas,
a mixture of Old West and Spanish history.
BIG SPRING STATE PARK

This state park offers the visitor 343 acres of recreational
facilities, picnic areas, playground equipment, and a
dance pavilion. Approximately 40 miles northeast of Midland
via Interstate 20 and U.S. 87.
CARLSBAD CAVERNS NATIONAL PARK-NEW MEXICO

Among the world's largest caverns! These tremendous caves,
sculptured by nature over millions of years, house literally
thousands of bats, which fly out daily at sundown. Approximately
175 miles west of Midland via Interstate 20, U.S. 285
and U.S. 62-180.
DAVIS MOUNTAINS STATE PARK

Nestled in Texas' only mountain chain, which extends from
the New Mexico border south of Carlsbad to the Rio Grande
in the Big Bend, 1,869 acres of wooded playground! This
park offers excellent camping facilities, hiking, horseback
riding, mountain climbing, and exploring the many caves
which penetrate the Davis Mountains. Approximately 175
miles south of Midland via Interstate 20, State Highway
17 and U.S. 290.
FORT DAVIS NATIONAL MONUMENT

Built in the mid-19th century to protect travelers headed
to California, taken over by the Confederacy during the
Civil War, then abandoned, only to have federal troops
(including the Black military unit known as the Buffalo
Soldiers), return to rebuild the fort in 1867. A large
museum has been established within the partially restored
fort. Many adobe barracks still exist. Approximately 175
miles south of Midland, via Interstate 20.
GUADALUPE NATIONAL PARK

The newest in the National Park System. Contained in the
77,000 acres are the two highest peaks in Texas, Guadalupe
Peak and El Capitan. Desert flowers, cacti, forests and
McKittrick Canyon are available for exploring. Enjoy mountain
climbing, spelunking, or just gazing at the stark beauty
of Guadalupe National Park. Approximately 180 miles west
of Midland via Interstate 20, U.S. 285, Farm Road 652,
and U.S. 62-180.

Garden, or cross the border for shopping in Ojinaga, Mexico.
MCDONALD OBSERVATORY

Located at an elevation of 6,800 feet in the heart of
the Davis Mountains, this nationally renowned astronomy
center is famous for day and night time celestial gazing.
The Visitor Center is open Monday through Saturday 9 AM
to 5 PM, except on major holidays. Guided tours are available.

MONAHANS SANDHILL PARK

which led Basinites to devise their own special forms
of recreation: sand surfing and dune buggy riding...or

PRUDE RANCH

Prude Guest Ranch was established in 1889 as a cattle
ranch. Today, the ranch offers the visitor accommodations,
tennis courts, swimming pools, and horseback riding. RV
hook-ups are also available. The ranch is located 175
miles south of Midland, via Interstate 20.
